If you’re a big fan of mp3’s and digital music, you almost certainly have had difficulties organizing your music file collection.
I know what it is like, as I used to have hundreds of mp3’s all crammed into one folder on my hard drive. So I am all too painfully aware of of the time and effort involved in ploughing through to find one specific tune to listen to.
Organizing your music files is absolutely crucial. Once your mp3’s are nicely sorted out, you’ll be able to locate the songs you need simply and quickly. So please take a couple of moments to read through the following tips I’ve come up with.
1. Build Subfolders
The single most important suggestion for organizing your files is to generate genre-specific subfolders on your hard drive. Don’t lump all of your MP3 files in one huge folder called C:My Music. Create subfolders for specific music types like C:My MusicClassical, C:My MusicPop and C:My MusicSoundtracks, or maybeeven for particular artists, like C:BobDylan.
2. Make Sure Your ID3 Tags Are Correct
ID3 tags are used to retain vital information about your MP3 files. Such things like the song title, artist, and album are all kept by these tags, and will be displayed by your MP3 player. Make sure that you properly edit these tags – many downloaded MP3 files have the ID3 tag details recorded completely incorrectly. A good free software program for editing ID3 tags is TagScanner.

4. Download Your Music Files from Legal Sources
If you’ve been getting your music using P2P (peer-to-peer) file sharing programs like KaZaa, you will very probably have lots of mp3’s which have weird nonsensical names like 56_HeyjAck.mp3. et your files from properly authorized sources like online music services iTunes or Napster and you will not have this problem any more.
5. Build Good Playlists
Most music player software (e.g. Winamp) permits you to create playlists. So, if you are in the mood for classical music, you can create a folder called C:Classical and create a playlist in that folder. Save the playlist after you’ve built it, and When you next feel like listening to those melodies again, all you need to do is load that playlist instead of spending hours ploughing through your hard drive and folders.
6. Get A Big Hard Drive!
In my experience, there is no doubt that one of the biggest hinderances to organizing your mp3 collection properly is running out of disk space. This will ruin your well-organized music collection, no question!. Make sure you have enough hard disk space to store your music files, and that everything fits on one drive. You do not want half your songs on your C drive and the other half on the D, as this is a very bad idea. Very messy, and inevitable it will make it difficult to create the playlist you want. It’s better to store them all in one hard disk, so get your hands on the biggest hard drive you can find.

The mp3 is a completely heaven sent gift for anyone who enjoys and appreciates tremendous music. Not only does it offer users total convenience of purchasing and then downloading music online and ripping from purchased CDs, it also provides the utmost ease in portability.

I make mp3 CD’s containing up to 120 of my favorite songs for my listening satisfaction in my car. But how can so numerous audio files get stored on my 800MB (Megabyte) CD?
Simple! It’s all to do with the way mp3’s are made. mp3 Encoders and mp3 converters are the software that creates mp3s by using an p3 compression and decompression algorithm.
For instance, an average 3 minute WAV file can be as big as 15MB. Using mp3 encoders and mp3 converters, a fat WAV file can be cut down to a very muc more manageable and more portable mp3 file of about 3MB.

At this layer 3, the principles of psychoacoustics are employed to find and remove all unnecessary sound data, to leave behind nothing but the crucial audio data. All unnecessary sound data, by which I mean all of the sounds that we humans don’t hear at any rate, is effectively removed, leaving behind the much smaller mp3 file. Most mortals can’t hear sounds above 16 kHz so why would you want it hogging your disk or hard drive space?
Non-music audio such as speeches, sermons, audio books and entertainment albums, can be pared down to an even smaller file based on this principle.
Compression occurs subsequent to the removal of the extraneous data, when only the vital data is left behind.
At this stage, the same amount of data can be stored using fewer bits and less space.
The bit rate is the ratio of the number of bits transferred between two devices per second. The greater the bit rate, the higher the sound quality. Conversely, the lower the bit rate ratio, the poorer the quality.
192 Kb/s is the most popular bit rate utilized in peer-to-peer networks.
For the most part, mp3 converters and encoders today use variable bit rates, which allows for hugely superior quality audio, because the bit rate conforms to the dynamics of the audio frames being stored which in turn keeps far more of the vital music data.

Downloaded dangers! There are many, many sites out there where you can download tons of music for free. Some of them are totally legal, above board and totally unimpeachable. Many are less clearly whiter than white and, whilst they may not be illegal, they are certainly more questionable.
However, there is no doubt that these music sources are an absolute godsend to someone looking for free mp3 music online, as long as you realize accept their limitations. - Adware is also contained in these mp3 download networks. Your computer can and probably will be stuffed with a huge amount of intrusive advertising.
- Pornography is very prevalent on the Internet. Be very aware that porn peddlers disguise their software as the latest free mp3 download or game demo to redirect your modem to porn sites.
- Spoofing is when download mp3 networks are filled with fake files. For example, if you download what you think is a popular mp3 song, you will get the same ten seconds of the song over and over again. Almost all of the above types of programs will leave ‘cookies’ on your machine, so that they can track your future activities as well.
But, all is not doom and gloom. In order to combat almost all of these intruder pretty effectively, you can download a free check and fix program from www.spybot.com. Incidentally, many other programs will offer you a free online check, and will then invariably report a huge number of spyware, adware and other malicious software programs on your machine. You then have to buy their program to fix it, so be aware that the ‘test’ is free, but the program to fix the problem is not!
